Why systems must come before scale

Every business runs on systems. The only question is whether they are written down or living in one person's head.

Start with the work you repeat most. Document it as a checklist a capable stranger could follow. If you cannot write it down, you do not yet understand it well enough to delegate it.

Separate decisions from tasks. Tasks can be handed off immediately. Decisions need criteria before they can be handed off — write the criteria.

Measure three things only: how long the work takes, how often it has to be redone, and how it feels to the client. More metrics than that becomes theatre.

Review one system per month. Small, continuous correction beats an annual overhaul.
