There is a quiet panic that shows up around the fifth week of a job search. It sounds like: maybe I need a different career. Maybe I wasted those years. Maybe I should start over.
Before agreeing with that thought, it is worth slowing down and looking at the record honestly. Not the resume — the actual record. What you carried. What you fixed. Who relied on you. What was true before you had language for it.
In most conversations we have, the experience is already there. What is missing is a document that tells the truth about it plainly. That is a writing problem, and writing problems are solvable.
Starting over is expensive, slow, and often unnecessary. Seeing clearly is cheaper than starting over, and it usually comes first anyway.
So begin there. Observe what is actually true. Peace tends to follow observation, and forward progress tends to follow peace.
